Hi, I’m Maria. I am of Filipino descent but I was born and raised in American Samoa, I am fortunate to have been raised on both Filipino and Samoan cultures. I am an advocate for learning one’s culture and native tongue. I believe that by embracing parts of our culture, such as language, we can strengthen our communities for future generations to come. I can speak 4 languages. I also love to sing, cook, and bake in my spare time.

I attend the University of Hawaii of Manoa and I’m pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Communication at the College of Social Sciences with a focus in Communication in Communities. I want to bring communities together through intercultural communication and help small businesses on island with Public Relations by creating and maintaining good brand reputations.

Aside from being a student, I also work full-time as a nightlife concierge and bottle service waitress at a nightclub in Waikiki. One of my missions is to elevate the overall nightlife experience in Oahu to bring the next generation of adults a safe and fun space, without the promotion of overconsumption of alcohol and other substances.
