Fever 1793 is a book about a young girl named Mattie who survives through the fever epidemic. My favorite scene in Fever 1793 is when Mattie is getting pears, but she starts hallucinating. Then she passed out moments later while she was walking away from a farmer's house. Mattie and Grandfather had been kicked off the wagon because a doctor believed they had Yellow Fever. Matted helped Grandfather sit under a nearby chestnut tree because he was sick with the summer grippe. Mattie was getting food for Grandfather. Mattie found pears and began to walk back. The pears felt heavier to her. Mattie started to hallucinate about talking to her mother. Moments later, she passed out. This scene is important because it shows us that Mattie has become ill with yellow fever.
