My name is Solomon Northup. I was born a freeman after my daddy was freed on account of his master's death. I grew up owning this here farm with my wife and 3 children. It's hard to provide for these kids, so my wife and I have odd jobs. Me personally i play the fiddle.

Whilst trying to provide for my kids, i was playing the fiddle and was approached by a man who offered to take me on tour around the country. After i took the offer, i was drugged and brought to a plantation where i was enslaved by a kind man. unfortunately i was sold to an unkind man and had to endure his harsh treatment. I was enslaved for twelve whole years.

A man named Samuel wrote to me throughout my enslavement and ended up setting me free along with attorney, Henry Northup. After i was freed, i reunited with my wife and three children to live a normal life. my children became young adults in my absence and my wife grew old. I decided to write a book titled " twelve years a slave" where i describe my situation. my book ended up doing phenomenal even to this day.
