Canning Woo receives a letter from his daughter’s twin sisters in Shanghai, telling them that they are still alive and waiting for their mother, Suyuan, to come and visit them after having to abandon them for many years with no choice. However, they did not know that she passed away 3 months ago from an aneurysm.

Jing-Mei and her father take a train to Hong Hong to visit his aunt, Aiyi, before their stop to Shanghai.
At the hotel, her father tells her the sad story of how her mother had to leave her babies on the side of the road while escaping from Kweilin, when the peasant Mei Ching found and raised them
The next day, they all get on the plane to fly to Shanghai together and hopefully fulfill her mother's long-cherished wish of finally her daughter's finally reuniting.
When they arrive to the airport, Jing-Mei is worried that her sisters will expect her mother and be upset at her for not telling them and having their hopes up.
Her sisters Chwun Yu and Chwun Hwa recgonize her from a distance and they reunite at last. Jing-Mei realizes that they all share similar faces from their mother. At last, the lifelong desire is accomplished and they all embrace their connections and heritage.
