- Persians conqured an area of Greece that belonged to Spartans. After the attack Athens sent their army to help the Spartans defend themselves. Darius was determined to get revenge on Athens for helping Sparta.
- Salamis
- Our ships are narrow and can fit easilly in this strait
- The Persians tried to invade but the skills of the Greeks led them to overpower them even though there were more Persian forces. They were fighting because Darius was trying to get revenge. The Greeks used the Phalanx formation to attck and therfore made them much stronger.Greeks on the left Persians on the right
- The Greeks blocked the path at the Thermoplyae mountains so King Xerxes army could not get through but a Greek traitor informed the Persians of another way through. Xerxes wanted to avenge his father, King Darius, by taking over Athens and all of Greece. The 300 Spartans with Leonidas were all killed.
- Themistocles told the Athenians to evacuate. The Persians burnt Athens to the ground. They lured the Persians into the strait where they managed to ink 1/3 of the Persian fleet because the Greek ships were small and nimble. They were able to poke holes in the big Persian ships and have a victory.
