  • The French and Indian war was fought far from Georgia's borders and initially had a very small impact on the state.
  • So basically after the British won the French and Indian war, the British obtained Canada and all land west to the Mississippi River.
  • Due to the economics coast of this war, there were two important event that led to conflict between British and its colonies: Proclamation of 1763 and Stamp Act
  • Also, many colonist simply ignored the Proclamation and settled in the river valley anyway. 
  • Oh ya! The colonist were EXTREMELY upset by the Proclamation of 1763.
  • Didn't it say that if forbade colonist from setting lands west of the Appalachian Mountains?
  • The Proclamation of 1763 was issued by King George 2 and was issued in order to stabilize relations between Great Britain and the American Indian tribes.
  • Colonies was swift and violent. Colonial leaders made formal speeches against the act and joined to form the Stamp Act congress.
  • This act put a direct tax on items that were commonly used by almost every colonist including newspaper, licenses, and legal documents
  • Before we go on our field trip, does anyone know about the Stamp Act?
  • Thomas Jefferson was the author and Button Gwinnett, Lyman Hall, and George Walton signed it
  • 1. Preamble explains to the reader about the natural rights of all people, states the reason for the document, and include famous quotes.
  • Can anyone tell me about the Declaration of Independence and who signed it and the author?
  • The final part is the actual "Declarations of Independence" and where the colonists officially served ties from Great Britain.
  • 2. This part includes a list of grievance against King George 2 including "imposing taxes without our consent" and "quartering large bodies of troops among us". The list details why the colonies deemed independence necessary.
  • Well.. okay..um... The Georgia Patriots won and the battle raised the morale of the Georgia Patriots, replenished much needed supplies, and set the stage for several victories in the southern backcountry toward the end of the Revolutionary War.

  • The British recaptured Savannah making Georgia the only colony to be officially retaken by the British during the war. The patriot held country side and the British held cities of Augusta and Savannah. Can anyone tell me the out come?
  • A joint force of French and Patriot troops attacked Savannah in hopes of retaking the city. This FAILED! .When the fighting ended, over 800 allied troops were killed compared to 18British soldiers. Savannah stayed in British hands until 1782.
