Despite its hopeful message, Joey is caught on a security camera spray painting the wall late Sunday evening. He’s immediately called into the principal’s office and accused of vandalism. Joey lives in a low-income neighborhood where neglected parks, boarded-up buildings, and graffiti are part of daily life. Since his father was arrested two years ago, Joey's behaviour was constantly scrutinized.

Tony finds peace in painting — it’s how he processes his environment. He hoped his mural would inspire pride in students and teachers alike. But because of his background, his actions are interpreted not as art, but as a threat. He only wanted to help the school looked better. After suspension, teachers avoid Joey. His art turns darker, and he eventually drops out, feeling like no one cares.
