TONE - is the poet's attitude toward his/her subject or readers. it is similar to tone of voice but should not be confused with mood or atmosphere. An author's tone might be sarcastic, sincere, humourous . .The tone in this sonnet was very solemn in sacraficial. William Shakespeare is telling his loved ones not to mourn him when his dead. Instead he wants them to be happy and move on. This creates a tone of selflessness because he didn't want his image to be what they thought about if it made them sad. We can see that in lines 5-8 which says, "Nay, if you read this line, remember notThe hand that writ it, for I love you so,That I in your sweet thoughts would be forgot,If thinking on me then should make you woe."He accepts the fact the he will eventually die. He'd be able to Rest In Peace knowing the his loved ones would be happy and okay to move one from it.
The Turn in this sonnet can be found in line 12 which says, "But let your love even with my life decay;." The speaker wanted their loved one's to move on. He continually told them how much he loved them. The speaker understands how much his loved ones love him however, if the love they have for him causes them to mourn, he'd rather them hate him. The reader's wouldn't be able to be a normal villager anymore because the villager would constantly look at them through a lens of pity and they'll mourn as well. Grief is contagious. Not only will the villagers try and feel their pain, he wouldn't be happy either. He'd rather be hated the mourned.
Lest the wise world should look into your moan,
And mock you with me after I am gone
