- A pack of barking dogs runs toward the protagonist. He freezes in place.
- A quiet, lonely farm, with slaves working in the fields. The protagonist walks toward the farmhouse.
- “Well, this ain’t exactly the welcome I expected…”

- A white woman rushes out of the house, emotional and teary-eyed.
- “Go away! Run off, you pesky mutts!”
- “Oh, you don’t look as much like your mother as I expected, but I’m happy to see you anyway. How are you, Tom?”
- “Is it you, finally?
- The protagonist realizes he has been mistaken for Tom Sawyer.
- Gleiten: 2
- Aunt Sally bombards him with questions while leading him inside.
- Uh… the engine broke down, took three days to fix.
- Oh, uh… yeah, early in the morning!
- “Why was your boat late?”
- He starts sweating, realizing the risk of getting caught.
- Aunt Sally suddenly pushes him under the bed as her husband enters
- The protagonist listens nervously from under the bed.
- “Stay hidden! This’ll be a great joke!”
- Has he come yet?
- No! What if you passed him on the road?
- Sally, that could not have happened.
- Gleiten: 3
- A distant boat whistle echoes. The protagonist’s eyes widen.
- Aunt Sally pulls him out, smiling.
- If Tom Sawyer is on that boat, I’m finished.
- Why, it’s Tom Sawyer, of course
- Who’s that?
- Well, welcome, Tom! Tell me, how’s Sid and Mary?
- He rushes off, desperate to intercept the real Tom Sawyer
- I’ll go with you.
- Gleiten: 0
- “Yes…”
- Three days? That’s awful! But you did have breakfast on the boat, didn’t you?
- Oh boy…
- I should go into town to get my bags. Left ’em hidden away
- No, no! Been trouble enough already. I’ll go alone.
