Storyboard-Text

  • Two students are on the way on their Physics class when they have a conversation on what will be the topic for today's discussion.
  • Hey Jim! Have you ever wondered how the water in this fountain flows?
  • Oh! That's great Jim, I learned that our next topic for today is all about FLUID MECHANICS which is a branch of PHYSICS concerned with the flow of fluids and forces on them.
  • Hi Ann! I am actually curious on how the water, specifically FLUIDS flow.
  • Ms. Smith's physics class
  • From what I read, Fluid mechanics is the study of the behavior of the liquids and gasses, and particularly the forces that they produce. It includes buoyancy, surface tension, and pattern formation in boiling liquids.
  • Good day class! So our topic for today is all about FLUID MECHANICS, HYDRAULICS, AND HYDROLOGY. I am going to explain and differentiate the three to all of you.
  • But before I start my discussion, do you have any insights on what Fluid mechanics is? Yes Ann!
  • So Hydraulics is related to Fluid Mechanics. It is a mechanical function that operates through the force of liquid pressure. In hydraulics-based systems, mechanical movement is produced by contained, pumped liquid, typically through hydraulic cylinders moving pistons.
  • Thank you Ann for a comprehensive insight. Now that we know what Fluid mechanics is, let's differentiate it with Hydraulics.
  • Five types of Fluids
  • Newtonian Fluid: If a real fluid obeys Newton's law of viscosity then it is known as the Newtonian fluid.Non-Newtonian Fluid:If the real fluid does not obey Newton’s law of viscosity then it is called Non-Newtonian fluid.Ideal Plastic Fluid: A fluid having the value of shear stress more than the yield value and shear stress is proportional to the shear strain is known as ideal plastic fluid.
  • Yes we do, ma'am.
  • Yes ma'am.
  • And that's all for our topic for today. Did you enjoy our class discussion?
  • Yes ma'am
  • To summarize our discussion for today. We discuss the difference between Fluid Mechanics, Hydraulics, and Hydrology. Then we also know the properties of Fluid and Gas. And lastly we discuss the different types of Fluids.
  • I hope you learned a lot from our class and apply all your learning about our topics in your daily lives. Thank you for listening and class dismissed.
