- Rainsford started to drag himself from the swirling water.
- Rainsford heard another gunshot and thought to himself "Where there are pistol shots, there are men.
- Rainsford came upon a palatial chateau (A large country house)
- Rainsford saw a sighted of light and he came upon them as he turned a crook in the coastline, and he first thought was that he has found a village.
- Rainsford heard the door opened as suddenly as if it were on a spring. The first thing Rainsford's eyes discerned was the largest man he has ever seen.
- "The menacing look in the eyes did not change." said Rainsford talking about the tall man.
