Storyboard-Text

  • Walter´s Dream
  • This morning, I was looking’ in the mirror and thinking about it … I’m thirty-five years old; I been married eleven years and I got a boy who sleeps in the living room—(Very, very quietly)—and all I got to give him is stories about how rich white people live …
  • Take A Taxi Cab To School
  • Hot dog
  • In fact, here’s another fifty cents … Buy yourself some fruit today—or take a taxicab to school or something!
  • Forgive Me
  • It ain’t that nobody expects you to get on your-knees and say thank you, Brother; thank you, Ruth; thank you, Mama—and thank you, Travis, for wearing the same pair of shoes for two semesters—
  • Well—I do—all right?—thank everybody! And forgive me for ever wanting to be anything at all!
  • Walter´s dream is to open a liquor store using his deceased dad´s money as a startup. He plans on using his store to make lots of money however the rest of the family thinks that it wont work, and he is wasting his time.
  • There's Only Man
  • Mama, you don’t understand. It’s all a matter of ideas, and God is just one idea I don’t accept. It’s nonimportant. I am not going out and be immoral or commit crimes because I don’t believe in God. I don’t even think about it. It’s just that I get tired of Him getting credit for all the things the human race achieves through its own stubborn effort. There simply is no blasted God—there is,only man and it is he who makes miracles!
  • In this scene, Walter gives his son 50 cents (around 6$ in today's time) as a treat to him even though he doesn't have enough money to sustain himself. Travis is shocked by this giving the energetic reaction of ¨Hot Dog¨.
  • And didn't none of it happen.
  • Looks rightdumpy today. But Lord, child, you should know all thedreams I had ’bout buying that house and fixing it up and making me a little garden in the back. And didn’t none of it happen.
  • In this scene Walter expresses his anger at Beneatha for not appreciating what sacrifices the family has made for her. Beneatha then goes to the floor over dramatically shouting for the family to forgive her.
  • On The Living Room Couch
  • You ain’t looked at it and you don’t aim to have tospeak on that again? You ain’t even looked at it and youhave decided—(Crumpling his papers) Well, you tellthat to my boy tonight when you put him to sleep on theliving-room couch!
  • In this scene, Beneatha shouts at her mother, challenging her strong belief in god.
  • Momma's dream was to get a house and being able to live a good life with her family. However, when her husband dies, she chooses to take care of the rest of her family instead of moving into her house.
  • In this scene Walter yells about how wasted of an opportunity it is. This is because before the scene, Momma didn't know what to do with the money and suggested donating it to a church.
