- One major theme of The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street is that fear and suspicion can cause people to turn on each other.One example is that in the teleplay on page seventy-six Les Goodman's car starts unexpectedly.This causes the residents of Maple Street to feel suspicious and now think that he is the monster who is causing there neighborhood to have problems.Another example is that in the online version of the teleplay on page six-hundred-seventy-five a woman claims that Les Goodman is up at the wee hours of the night looking up at the sky as if he were looking for something.This statement that she recalled caused the residents to become suspicious and watch over his house to see what he would do.In addition on page six-hundred-seventy-seven in the online version of the teleplay, Steve's wife claims that he has a radio set that he works on in the basement.The residents then become suspicious and turn on Steve then Charlie asks him who he talks to and who talks to him thinking that he might be the monster.Lastly,on page six-hundred-seventy-eight in the online version of the teleplay the residents spot a figure in the dark and out of fear Charlie shoots the figure only to find out that is was one of his neighbors,Pete Van Horn.In conclusion the theme of this story Monsters Are Due On Maple Street is fear and suspicion can cause people to turn on each other.
