- Jonas finally gets around to asking the giver why he doesn't have a spouse and is he allowed to apply for one. The Giver said yes you can apply since he is old his former spouse now live the the childless adults.
- The Giver tells Joans that he can apply for a spouse some day but it will be very difficult, "Books for example you have to hide them from your family" said The Giver.
