- Dodong thought to himself one afternoon at the farm, when the sun was salmon and hazy in the west, that he was already old enough to tell his father about marrying Teang when he got home, after he had unhitched the carabao from the plow, let it to its shed, and fed it.
- Dodong is the main character of the story who got married at the age of 17. Teang regretted marrying at such a young age. Lucio was Teang's other suitor, who married after she did and is now childless. Blas was Dodong and Teang's oldest son, eventually he followed in their footsteps, he considered marrying Tona when he was 18 years old. Tona is the woman Blas wishes to marry. Dodong's Father was the one who advises him to think hard before jumping into a commitment like marriage.
- Dodong's father appeared to disapprove when he informed him about his proposal. Dodong became enraged, but then perplexed. He requested that his father inform his Nanay of his plans. Even though his parents objected, they nonetheless gave Dodong what he desired.

- After nine months, Teang gave birth to their first born son, named Blas. Dodong gradually grasped why his father had protested over his early marriage. Teang, he gazed at the pregnant woman. He became terrified of the responsibilities of fatherhood. (CONFLICT: MAN VS. SELF)
- Dodoing and Teang begin to encounter the difficulties and complications of marriage at an early age. Years passed, and Blas was no longer Dodong's sole kid. Many more youngsters arrived. A new child was born every year for the next six years.
- Blas, who was 18 at the time, desired to marry Tona. Dodong did not protest, despite the fact that he does not want Blas to marry just yet. He even attempted to persuade Blas not to rush into marriage.He doesn't want Blas to become like him. In the moonlight, Dodong stared longingly at his little kid Blast. As if history were to repeat itself, he insists on becoming old enough to marry Tonya. He was heartbroken and felt terrible for him.
