- Peyton is the main character in this story. She lives in Washington DC. She has a best friend, Tess and a boyfriend Reed. Reed and Tess are siblings and live in a poor home. Peyton lives a normal life, besides her dad died in a tunnel. Reed is a fighter and Tess plays soccer with Peyton.
- Climax or Turning Point
- Peyton gets a scholarship to UNC. She's going there to play on the women's soccer team. She tells everyone and Reed. They're all excited for her. Reed later that night takes Peyton out to a party to celebrate her success.
- Falling Action
- Peyton stops over at Reed's house before going to the party. She notices a different tone in him. He yells and gets into an argument with his mom, which he never does, and it beat up from overdoing himself at the gym, fighting. Peyton questions why he's keep acting more aggressive and angry more often now.
- Resolution
- Peyton and Reed get into a heated argument because she found drugs in Reed's car at the party. He tells her to not tell anyone. He gets so mad, he pushes her down the stairs and tears her PCL. She gets surgery and is still getting death threats from Reed's friends, calling Peyton a liar. People think she's lying because they don't think the drugs were Reed's. SInce Peyton is getting threats, she has no other choice but to leave Washington DC and move down to Black Water, Tennessee. 
- Peyton now lives in Black Water Tennessee with her uncle, Hawk, and her two twin cousins, Christian and Cameron. Peyton meets April, Christian's ex-girlfriend, and they do not start on good terms. Grace makes Peyton feel comfortable in this town. Grace is Christian's new girl. Peyton goes to physical therapy and Owen has to be her trainer. They start out rocky in the beginning, because Peyton thinks Owen has a secret. They get to know each other and become friends.
- Peyton and Owen fall in love at the end. Peyton decides to stay in Tennessee to be with Owen. She recovered from her injury and is playing for UNC.
