- RISING ACTION
- The small village got prepared for the lottery-like every year at the end of June. Mr. Summers runs the lottery.
- CLIMAX
- Tessie Hutchinson's husband's bill grabbed a paper with something on it. Tessie yelled, "that's not fair, Bill wasn't given enough time to choose the paper he wanted."
- FALLING ACTION
- Mr.Summers called the Hutchinson family up to the box. He puts slips of paper into the box including the one bill grabbed out.
- RESOLUTION
- Everyone from the Hutchinson family pulled a slip of paper out of the box and Tessie got the paper with something on it.
- Tessie yells "It's not fair, it's not right." The villagers begin to pick up their stones so they could get it over with before noon dinner.
- A stone hits the side of Tessie's head. Old man warner one of the villagers cheers the village on. The villagers started throwing more stones at Tessie.
