- To understand how Ohio Christian University can raise servant leaders, one must first understand what a servant leader is.
- A servant leader goes beyond his or her own goals and needs to serve both those under and over his or herself.
- Servant leadership is “a philosophy and set of practices that enriches the lives of individuals, builds better organizations and ultimately creates a more just and caring world.”
- “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths”
- Jesus was and always will be the perfect Servant Leader, and Ohio Christian University’s leadership should take this into account when creating programs to raise such leaders. Indeed, they have so far by creating and implementing six core values into all OCU curriculum and programs, “Christ-Centered, Biblically Based, Student Oriented, Ministry Motivated, Leadership Focused, and Academically Excellent.
- The student values play a huge role in influencing the culture and community through students past, present, and future. Ohio Christian strives to complete this through teaching andimplementing “Christ-like character, Biblical Christian faith,” and creating a transformed heart in its students (Ohio Christian University, 2022). This, in turn, creates students who are Christ like in leadership.

- Another advantage of student values is that these same values also apply to professors. The professors must exhibit the same values that the students live by.
- Class, I cant wait to see you all at the worship service tonight!
- This creates a positive cycle as the professors exhibit servant leadership to their students. The students should learn these traits and carry them on into their own lives and callings.
- I will be here after class to help counsel anyone who is going through this terrible ordeal.
- No problem, that is exactly why the Lord has me here at OCU, to help those in need!
- The interesting thing about Christianity is that if OCU can teach its students to be more like Jesus, they will naturally gravitate towards servant leadership. Indeed, Jesus himself said in Luke 22:26 “But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve” (KJV). For this reason, the teachers should serve the students, as that is what Jesus did. In the end, this will produce the best results.
