Ponyboy and Johnny were just hanging out in the kids's playground that was part of the Greaser property when they saw a blue mustang and they realized that those had to be the Socs they saw earlier.
It's just the beginning
You Socs are nothing but spoiled people with nothing to do with your money. Why are you here anyways this is our property.
Turns out that the Socs were following them because they were with the Socs girls.
The fight

Bob and the other Socs didn't like that so they wanted to fight Ponyboy and Johnny.
Johnny killed Bob
Ponyboy knew that this would end up in a fight but he still continued to insult the Socs because he didn't like the way he was talking about Greasers.
Well if you don't want us here you should of not messed with our girls.
Then the fight began and the Socs started to drown Ponyboy to the pint where he was breathing water and coudn't breathe. Johnny was scared and didn't know what to do.
When Ponyboy woke up, he found Bob lying on the floor dead. All the other Socs were gone. Johnny said that they ran away as soon as they saw that Johnny had stabbed him.
I killed him
