Exposition
Elie lives with his family in Ghettos in Hungary where he decided to study Kabbalah. He learns a lot from Moshe the Beadle.

Rising Action
Elie and his family are put on the train to arrive to Auschwitz. The train was crowded and some went mad.
Rising Action
Elie is at a constant battle with himself and his faith. He begins questioning his faith in God after he feels God isn't there especially after an innocent young boy is hung.
Elie gets a foot infection and has to have it operated on. The doctor who treats him, Elie believes is nice. He thought they amputated his leg but he just wasn't able to use his it for 2 weeks
Rising Action
Climax
Elie and his father decided to leave with the rest and not stay in the hospital. They marched in the cold for 42 miles. Many didn't make it or was shot down. Elie and his father did make it but his father was extremely ill
Elie had woke up from falling asleep and realized his father wasn't under him. The person under him was another ill person. The hard truth hits him that they must have taken him to the crematorium. He feels a force of freedom from not having to take care of him anymore but also feels that life doesn't matter anymore
