- I went to prison and almost died.
- Wow
- This depicts Marji's Uncle telling her stories about him time in prison and his past, in which she is in awe of. This makes her feel like everyone else because she has a story that is better than her classmates but it also taught her valuable lessons about who she should be around, If this would not have happened it could have made the book go a totally different way because she wouldn't have had a hero like figure at a young age. I can relate to this because I remember times that my Uncle told me stories about his past in California and everything he had to go through. It is important to me because it taught me to be myself and to be grateful for what I do have and not to worry about what I don't have.

- This depicts Marji around her friends when they start to think she is not who she says she is. This is a very important part of the book because this is the point when Marji finally accepts who she really is and expresses that. If this never happened she may have never let her true self come out of her shell. I can relate to this because I went to a school with not a lot of diversity and accepting who I truly am was a hard thing to do, especially when no one else around you can relate, but once you accept it it makes you a better person.

- This depicts Marji saying goodbye to her family so she could go to France at the end of the book. I feel that this is a very important scene because it shows her moving on from her past and pursuing the future with a fresh start. If this would not have happened realistically this whole book would not have been made and she would be in the same place stuck in the past. I can relate to this because I have been in situations where it was hard to let go but I had to move on for me, even though it was hard, at the end of the day I had to think of me and having a fresh start and in my situation it meant saying goodbye.
