The people living in the mountains have to be strong, since it's a rough climate. Everything is difficult to do, including growing enough food. There is sometimes snow and ice. Farmers, which most of the people are, make the best of the small amount of land suitable for raising crops in the mountains. They use innovative agricultural techniques like terracing to keep the land level

The government uses the taxes to keep a strong military, to build roads, and to provide a safety net for all people. No one is homeless and no one goes hungry or starves in this society, even if their region of the empire is struck with a natural disaster that destroys their crops. People who are hungry get foodfrom government granaries (food storage buildings) and those who are not physically able to work and are taken care of. Many of the people’s needs are met by the government.

The Incas believed in many gods who controlled various aspects of nature. The Incas believed that all these gods had received their power from a supreme god called Viracocha, the creator of the world. But to the Incas, the most important god was Inti, the sun god.
