Alex Howard Fever 1793

Fever 1793 is a book about Mattie’s life during yellow fever in the 1700s. In my opinion, the best scene is when the coffee house gets robbed and the grandfather dies. Mattie and grandfather had just returned from Bush Hill and discovered the coffee house was destroyed. Mattie worked very hard for them to survive. Mattie decided to sleep in the front room where she opened the windows for it to be cooler. Mattie was sleeping when the robbers took everything that was left. Then Mattie screamed. The robbers tied her up. Grandfather entered the room with a gun. Grandfather counted to three and shot. Grandfather falls backward and the robber starts beating him up. Mattie grabbed the sword and cut the robber. She chased him out. Grandfather was close to death. This is important because it leaves her alone and sad. She will have to survive on her own.
