  • Regrets what he did the previous dayEmbarrassed and regrets and gets angry about what he did the previous day so he hurts himself. He punched the kitchen stove, hurt his hand, and caused one of the bricks to go flying.carefully chooses his clothing and make sures nothing is wrong with his outfitMade sure to “look pleasing to the eye” and over thinks everything just so he could look good to Dunya
  • Razumihin talked drunken nonsense the previous night to not only Raskolnikov but also to the ladies there. He mentioned to Raskolnikov about how Zossimov (the doctor for Raskolnikov) was afraid that Raskolnikov might become insane.Razumihin also described him as a monomaniac when he fetched him to ZossimovRazumihin also talked about the painter
  • Razumihin reached the lodging of Bakaleyev’s house. He’s nervous and awkward when he first enters the house. But to his surprise Pulcheria Alexandrovna (Raskolnikov’s mother) rushed to him, seized him by both hands, almost kissing them, her expression was that of gratitude and friendliness, “such complete and unlooked-for respect (he was expecting sneering looks and ill-disguised contempt).Alexandrovna invited Razumihin for breakfast (they waited to have it with him)Talked for three quarters of an hour, mom kept asking him questions, and he told her almost all the important facts he knew of the last year of Raskolnikov’s life. But omitted the bad things like his visit to the police station and all the consequences that came along with it. Thought he was finished and satisfied them but then came to found out that they thought he had hardly begun
  • Mom is very curious about Raskolnikov’s life and what he thinks, acts, hopes for, dreams for, yearns for, etc.Razumihin mentions that Raskolnikov has a noble nature and a kind heart (Raskolnikov does help others and you see that in the book many times, he gives money to people who need it even though he, himself needs it but I also think that it’s ironic because he literally killed 2 people)The mom was dressed poorly and her belongings showed signs of extreme povertyThe mom didn’t like that Raskolnikov was engaged to the landlady’s daughter and she said that she rejoiced at her deathRazumihin claims that if he spoke rudely of Luzhin it was because he was “disgustingly drunk”, “mad”, “crazy”, he “lost his head

  • Very early in the previous morning they got a letter from Luzhin in reply to the letter they sent saying that they arrived. He promised to meet them at the station, but instead he sent a servant to bring them the address of the lodgings and to show them the way, But in the morning, when all this talking was taking place, a note came from him that worried the mom a lot. In the letter Luzhin talked about how he wasn’t able to meet them at the station because of some unforeseen events and that he also wouldn’t be able to meet them the next morning because he has business at the Senate and that he also wouldn’t want to intrude on the family meeting. So instead, he would visit them the next day (the day of the family meeting) no later than 8:00 p.m. He asks that Raskolnikov wouldn’t be there because when he went to visit him because of his illness he offered him a gross and unprecedented affront. And that in spite of his request, if Raskolnikov was there he would be “compelled to withdraw immediately” and that she would only have herself to blame. He also snitches on Raskolnikov. He says that in the “lodging of a drunken man who was run over and has died, to whose daughter, a young woman of notorious behaviour, he gave twenty-five roubles on the pretext of the funeral, which gravely surprised me knowing what pains you were at to raise that sum”. He starts to emotionally manipulate them into thinking that he has the greatest interest of them in his mind. He also ends the letter by saying “I beg you to accept the respectful homage of ‘Your humble servant, ‘P. LUZHIN.’” Once again emotionally manipulating them into thinking that he believes himself as “lower” than them even though we ALL know that he believes he is the best and is better than them.
  • Dounia checks the time with a “splendid gold enamelled watch that hung round her neck on a thin Venetian chain, and looked entirely out of keeping with the rest of her dress”.The mom points out that something happened to Razumihin’s right hand and Razumihin says that he bruised it.They get to Raskolnikov’s house
