- My name is Reies Lopez Tijerina and I was born on September 21, 1926 in Fall City, Texas.
- Oye, Reies' grandfather has been getting assaulted by the whites..
- When I was 4 I worked with my migrant family in the farmers' field. I would hear stories of texas rangers' assaults on Mexicans and the near lynching on my grandfather by white racists and that shaped my political consciousness.

- I led the Land- grant movement during the early 1600s on a daily radio program and in a regular column in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
- We deserve Equalness!
- I was later put in as well as 5 other members involved in La Alianza in jail in 1967 and was later released in 1969. The reason for our arrest was because we were charged with assault on government officials.
- My only crime is demanding the respect and protection of our property, which has been confiscated illegally by the federal government. Ever since the treaty was signed in 1848, our people have been asking every elected president of the United States for a redress of grievances. Like the Black people, we too have been criminally ignored. Our right to the Spanish land grant pueblos is the real reason why I went to prison.
- Once I was released my first speech was on May 9, 1969 at UCLA
- Igained international attention and entered national civil rights politics, forming alliances with Black Power advocates and rising Chicano leaders and serving as the Latino leader of the 1968 Poor People’s Campaign.
- Reies went to jail one last time before dying in 1971 due for his involvement in the courthouse raid and was later transferred to a mental hospital in Springfield, Missouri. Reies also moved to central Mexico in 1994 after his New Mexico home burned in a fire; in 2006 he moved to El Paso, Texas. He published an autobiography, They Called Me “King Tiger”: My Struggle for the Land and Our Rights, in 2000.
- But, I unfortunately died in 2015 at age 91 due to natural causes such as battling diabetes and heart condition for several years...
