- Mrs. White forces Mr. White to wish for their son back. Mr. White makes the wish and they then go back to bed. They wake up when they hear loud knocks at the door.
- Mr. White is playing chess with his son, Herbert. They are interrupted when Sergeant Major Morris enters the room and tells the familly about his travels and the monkey’s paw.
- Falling Action
- Mr. White wishes upon the monkey’s paw for 300 pounds. The next day, Herbert goes to work and gets caught in the machinery. This information is given to Mr. and Mrs. White when a man dressed in a suit and tie shows up to their house. He tells them that Herbert had died at work, and for his services, the family will receive 300 pounds.
