Act 3 Scene 1

Act 3 Scene 2

"Challenge me the Count's youth to fight with him; hurt him in eleven places." (3.2.35-36)
"You're right, I shall challenge the Count's youth to prove Olivia of my love."
Cesario has come to lady Olivia's house to give her a love message from Duke Orsino. Cesario meets Feste the clown when he arrives. Feste makes conversation and jokes with Cesario. Cesario offers Feste some coins for his troubles. He goes inside to announce Cesario's arrival to Olivia.
Act 3 Scene 3
"I'll be your purse-bearer, and leave you for an hour." (3.3.47-48)
"I am not yet weary. I wish to satisfy my eyes through this renowned town."
Finally alone with Cesario, she begs him to stop giving her love messages from Orsino. Olivia confesses how deeply in love she is with him. Cesario politely tells Olivia he cannot love her. Olivia accepts Cesario's rejection but cannot get rid of her love for him so easily.
Act 3 Scene 4
"Why this is very midsummer madness." (3.4.58) What has gotten into you?"
"My sweet lady, would you commend thy yellow stockings."
Sir Andrew has decided to leave after seeing Olivia fawn over Cesario. He believes Olivia is not the one to marry. Sir Toby and Fabian persuade Sir Andrew in making him believe Olivia is only doing this to make him jealous. They encourage Sir Andrew to show off his manliness by challenging Cesario to a duel to win over Olivia.
Act 3 Scene 4
"Go hang yourselves all! You are idle shallow things; I am not in your element." (3.4. 129-130)
"You speak ill of the devil, how he takes it at heart. Pray to God he be not bewitched." (3.4.106-107)
Sebastian and Antonia arrive in Illyria. Antonio tells Sebastian that he is not safe there. Many years ago he was involved in a battle against Orsino, causing Orsino's men to be very hostile toward him. As they go through the town, Antonio gives Sebastian his purse so that he can buy himself something. They spilt up and agree to meet each other back soon.
Olivia seeks Malvolio but finds him wearing yellow stockings and acting very strangely. Olivia is very confused but Malvolio continues to recite quotes from the letter, smile, and call Olivia sweetheart.
"What is with thy smiling and love calls?"
Sir Toby, Fabian, and Maria show up to see Malvolio, pretending the devil has possessed him. Malvolio sneers back and tells them, to go away, letting him enjoy his privacy. They decide to lock Malvolio in a dark room to treat the "devil" in Malvolio.
"We shall make you mad indeed, good riddens."
"The house shall finally be the quieter!"
