This play activity was designed for grade Rs to teach emergent reading in literacy. The topic being covered is learners interpreting pictures to make up their own stories. They will basically be ''reading'' the pictues. The aim of this activity is to develop a grade R’s languageand literacy using play. By the end of this activity, learners should be able to explain what is happening in apicture to make up a story. They should also be able to demonstratecollaboration as a team. They should be able to construct a story by just looking at pictures.
Good morning learners. Today we are going to be making up a story using the pictures you see in front of you

The teacher will start of by telling the learners that they are going to make up a story as a class using the pictures in front of them(5MINS)
I will show you how to do this activity using different pictures.

The teacher will then demonstrate using different pictures so that learners can see exactly what is expected from them. She will also give learners a chance to ask questions before they start the activity (7MINS)

The teacher will let the children pick random picture on the floor then share their contribution. She will stick the pictures that they pick on the board and write their contribution to the story next to the picture.(15MINS)

each child will get a minimum of 2 turns to contribute to the story and the trick is whatever they contribute has to be in context with the story and it should correspond to what the previous person said.(15MINS)
