- Eugene Talmadge ran for Governor of Georgia as his final attempt of being in politics. He won on the promise of bringing back the white primary (declared unconstitutional) and enforcing segregation.
- I will just remain as governor until there is a clear winner
- Before Talmadge was officially governor, he died. The controversy included Herman Talmadge, Melvin Thompson, and Ellis Arnall.
- I should be the governor because the people of Georgia elected me to take Talmadge's place if he ever died, and he did. So legally, I should be the governor of Georgia. I AM TAKING THIS TO COURT!
- This is Herman Talmadge's case. He often used the argument that the General Assembly had already voted him in, but it wasn't until someone found the exact amount of write-in votes for Talmadge that he would be voted on by the General Assembly.

- this wouldn't have turned out like this if we still had the white primary
- Ellis Arnall remained as governor of Georgia until this case was figured out and argued that the General Assembly couldn't decide who is Governor. When Talmadge took over the capitol and Governor's Mansion, Arnall set up his own offices and maintained his authority of Governor of Georgia.
- Melvin Thompson was elected to Lieutenant Governor by the people of Georgia and according to the Constitution of Georgia, he should be sworn in as governor. The Constitution was actually not clear on this situation, but Thompson took Talmadge to court.
- The federal court voted in favor of Thompson and Thompson was sworn in as the official Governor of Georgia.
