- Japan invades, the French leave The Japanese were very cruel to the Vietnamese people soa man called Ho Chi Minh decides to do something about it!He gets the support of the people and they constantly resist the Japanese
- US Navy vessel exchanged fire with North Vietnamese vessels in the Gulf of Tonkin off the North Vietnam coast. US ships reported that the NV had launched torpedoes at them; the ships were not damaged, though. The President declared this attack an act of war and ordered air strikes against the NV bases
