  • Our teacher gave us an assignment on UbD, so today we're going to explain it!
  • Stage 1: Learning GoalsIn this stage, a teacher figures out what they want students to know by the end of the lesson/unit
  • Advantages:  -Know what you want students to learn-Can track whether students are on the right track for the lesson
  • UbD is Understanding by Design, otherwise known as backwards mapping!
  • Stage 2: Feedback & Assessment These are the things that will show whether students know what you want them to
  • I wonder if this presentation is how my teacher is testing us on UbD?
  • Advantages: -Clear guidelines of what students must know to succeed- Easier lesson planning based on what students must know by the end of the unit
  • Stage 3: Teaching and Learning This is everything you need to teach students to prepare this for the assessment
  • Stage 3 of UbD is this!  Here my teacher will decide what we'll do during the unit!
  • Advantages: -All tasks will serve a purpose/ no busy work- Know what should be learned by tasks and if kids are learning it
  • Established Goals: These are most commonly your state standards, which guide curriculum. It's what the students must know by the end.
  • What are we going to learn about next unit after this project?
  • Big ideas: These are made up of your enduring understandings. It's the general things you want students to know or be able to do
  • This isn't the 1800s... nevertheless, I, Thomas Jefferson, declare this is such a smart system. If only us founders had used it before the we decided to start the Revolutionary War, maybe we could have found a better way to get to the Constitution.
  • Performance tasks: This is how you will know if students have learned the information.
  • Examples: Tests, Projects, Essays
  • Learning activities: How will the students learn the info? What activities will you do to teach them? (Ex. Playing a game, reading an article, doing a worksheet, watching a video, etc.
  • Woof Woof
