- The king had absolute power and ruled without listening to the people's voices. King Louis XVI made poor decisions, ignored advice, and failed to solve France’s problems. This unchecked power and lack of accountability led many to demand a new form of government.

- The Third Estate, made up of common people, paid nearly all the taxes while the wealthy nobles and clergy were mostly exempt. This unfair system caused widespread poverty and resentment. As food prices rose and wages stayed low, people struggled to survive and demanded change.
