He realized he was in love with Julia Salas in spite of having an engagement with Esperanza
Alfredo met Julia Salas when visiting Judge Valle's house with his father. When Alfredo kept referring to Julia as Mrs. Valle, Julia became embarrassed. Since that time, Alfredo often visited the judge's home.
Alfredo ran into Julia after the procession of the Lady of Sorrows. Julia learned of Alfredo's engagement to Esperanza and congratulated him. This led Alfredo to consider whether to marry Esperanza or Julia Salas
After saying goodbye to Alfredo, Julia wanted him to keep their agreement with Esperanza. Alfredo eventually headed to Esperanza's house.
Dead Stars represents Alfredo's vision of a relationship with Julia. Though he believed in love, it was more like a star which brightness might possibly be the fading travel light.
Esperanza and Alfredo were engaged. After eight years, he was seeking for Brigida Samuy, a major witness for his defense in court.
He came to the residence of Julia and discovered her there. Still sleeping. And he knew he was like a Dead Star in his passion for Julia. It was not there.
