- Raskolnikov heard a conversation between two officers talking about Alyona.
- They talk about justifying her proposal, but they come to the conclusion that they wouldn't do it.
- After remembering this conversation, Raskolnikov starts to make preparations by sewing a bow on his coat.
- Raskolnikov wants to steal the ax, but the maid is sitting in the doorway. So he takes an axe from the porter.
- Those preparations delay him so he arrives to the pawnsbroker's at 7.30pm
