  • Hello im diane nash, I was born and raised in Chicago Illinois May 15, 1938. I attended parochial and different public schools in chicago and was also raised as a catholic.
  • I left chicago once I got admitted to Howard University in Washington, D.C
  • I transferred a year later from Howard University and attended Fisk University and majored in english!
  • I experienced the full effect of the jim crow system in 1959. I than attended a nonviolence workshop and had the opportunity to practice direct actions at an organized sit-ins
  • In 1960 I attended the founding meeting of SNCC (student nonviolent coordinating committee)
  • In 1961 SNCC supported multiple kids in Rock Hill who were involved in protest activities and refused to post bail after being arrested..
  • During the spring in 1961 I played a role to sustain freedom rides initiated by congress of racial equality! I coordinated many students efforts to continue the rides into mississippi and served as a liaison between the press and the US department of justice.
  • After my leadership role in the freedom rides. I became head of SNCC's campaign. As my campaign was one of the most successful in the era!
  • Onward I taught in various chicago public schools and continued activism organizing various tenants,, welfare support, and housing advocates.
  • Becoming a successful american civil rights activist.
