- "This journey must take lace between now and sunrise. Do not worry my dear, sweet Faith."
- "Husband, why can't you put off your journey until sunrise?"
- "Uh sir, Faith Kept me back awhile."
- "You are late young man."
- The devil!
- GOODY CLOYSE TOO?! Oh no. She taught me catechism.
- Before departing into the woods, Brown's wife, Faith, did not want him to leave because she was afraid to be alone at night. He assured her that he would be back and did not tell her what he was really going to be doing in the woods.
- "FAITH!"
- "FAITH!!!"
- "FAITH!"
- As he walked through the dark and gloomy woods, he eventually met up with the traveler who was making this deal with him. He was a little startled by the man's presence and noticed he had a snake-like staff by his side.
- "I can never look at her the same."
- "My husband, you're back!"
- On his journey, he realized he was walking towards evil and stopped. He saw Goody Cloyse, an old woman that taught hi, catechism. After her encounter with the traveler, she shouted, "The devil!" This is when Goodman Brown knew the man he had been walking with was the devil.
- Goodman Brown screamed his wife's name and was mocked by all the other evil voices in the air.
- When Brown returned to his village the next morning, he was no longer the same man. He saw everyone with evil in them and could not even look at his wife the same way.
- Goodman brown had lived a long life, but his dying hours were completely dark and none of his neighbors, neither his wife, carved any scripture onto his tombstone.
