- Well, I can tell you this. An ion is a particle that has lost or gained electrons. An ionic bond is the bonding between a non-metal and a metal.

- That is great! What are cations and anions?

- Cations are ions with a positive charge. Anions are ions with a negative charge.
- It all makes sense. How does your famous dot structure connect to all of this? I am still confused on why your dot structure is so important.
- My dot structure is a molecule's structural depiction in which dots represent electron locations surrounding the atoms and lines or dot pairs represent covalent interactions between atoms.
