Theme 1: IntoleranceAs Danforth says in Act III, “a person is either with this court or he must be counted against it.” The witch trials show extreme intolerance. Hanging witches is seen as the best way to make the community pure again. The trials label anyone different as devil worshippers and they have to be removed from the community.
