- The XIV dalai lama,Tenzin Gyatso, the spiritual leader of tibet, refers to himself as "a mere Buddhist monk." he was born on July 6, 1935, in a small village located in taktser, into a family of farmers.
- At the young age of two, the boy who was then named lhamo Dhondup, was recognized as the reincarnation of the XIII Dalai Lama
- There is a belief that the Dalai Lama are manifestations of avalokiteshuara or Chenrezig, the bodhisattva of Compassion and the patron saint of Tibet
