- Two slaves admire a mistress's easy life from afar.
- I agree, if I was a mistress I would have all the time in the world to spend with my husband and children, and to never have to work! To be so lucky!
- Wow, it sure would be nice to be a mistress on a large plantation. Mistresses are the perfect housewives.

- A man from Missouri and a Kansas voter argue over whether slavery should be allowed in the Kansas Territory even though the territory is above the Compromise of 1820 line
- Slavery should be allowed in the Kansas Territory!
- That is not for you to decide, out of the 3,000 people allowed to vote, 8,000 people have. Most of these people who have voted are from Missouri and want Kansas to be a slave state.

- Two slaves in a cotton field wish that the cotton gin had never been invented. The cotton gin, an invention by Eli Whitney, which had the purpose of making slavery less prominent, did the opposite. The invention made slavery have a big boom because cotton goods could be produced much faster, making it easier and quicker for farmers to make money.

- Yes, if the cotton gin had never been invented slavery would not be as popular as it is today. Farmers now want more slaves so they can get more cotton produced and make way more money.

- Two slaves are about to enter a church in the south, where they are allowed to attend a service. A white man is unhappy with this.
- I am so happy that we get to go to church services to practice our religion!
- I am too, church is a very important cultural component here in the south.

- These slaves should not be able to interrupt our worship.
- Abraham Lincoln won the election of 1860. This made many southerners mad, so one by one, southern states tried to secede from the Union.

- I won the election of 1860, even though I had very little support in the south. By winning, it became apparent the the south had lost their national political power.
