The Monsters are Due On Maple Street theme: Mankind is its own worst enemy
One major theme of The Monsters are Due on Maple Street by Rod Sterling is Mankind is it's own worst enemy. One example is when they argue with Les Goodman because he was the only person with a working car and was acting weird because he would get up at night and stare at the sky like he is waiting for something so she tried to say that he was the alien(PG 77). Another example of that is when Charlie shoots Pete van horn (PG 83). This shows that the residents are impulsive and scared. Another example is when the entire town was breaking windows, shooting each other, and fighting, just because some lights turned on and off and because they were trying to find someone to blame because they were scared and frightened (PG 86). Also another example is when they argue with Les Goodman because he was the only person with a working car and was acting weird because he would get up at night and stare at the sky like he is waiting for something (PG 77). Finally the theme to The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street is Mankind is it's own worst enemy.
