- The Civil War is a war that started between the two sides in America, the Union and the Confederacy. It started because of slavery. The union believed that slavery was inhuman and wrong. However the Confederacy believed that slaves were good for labor and were needed. This started a war between the country that lasted four years.
- On April 12, 1861, forces from the Confederate States of America attacked the United States military garrison at Fort Sumter, South Carolina. Less than two days later, the fort surrendered. No one was killed. The battle, however, started the Civil War, the bloodiest conflict in American history. This is what started the war and made the Union realise that they needed to fight back for what was right.
- On March 10, 1864, President Abraham Lincoln signs a brief document officially promoting then-Major General Ulysses S. Grant to the rank of lieutenant general of the U.S. Army, tasking the future president with the job of leading all Union troops against the Confederate Army. General Ulysses S. Grant then went on to ultimately help the union win the war and end slavery in America.
- In 1963 Abraham Lincolnsigned Emancipation Proclamation which stated that all slaves shall be set free.
- On August 28, 1864, Union Army General William Tecumseh Sherman lays siege to Atlanta, Georgia, a critical Confederate hub, shelling civilians and cutting off supply lines. The Confederates retreated, destroying the city's munitions as they went.
- Robert E. Lee, surrendered his Army to Union Gen. Ulysses S. Grant. This marked the end of the war and the end of slavery in America. The Union fought for what was right and they succeeded.
