- Plage has struck the city of Thebes.
- The murderer of King Laius must be brought to justice.
- The gods curse all that disobey this charge!
- NO! I will not answer... Your enemy is yourself.
- Oedipus, stop overlooking into this. The prophesies are false. Laius had been killed by robbers, not his son.
- When you were little, the prophesies said you would killed your father, marry your mother and be the father of your siblings. Jocasta and Laius decided it would be best to have you killed but the shepherd could not bear it. Therefore you were taken to Corinth.
