- The colonists were fed up! There was a meeting of the First Continental Congress.
- The Second Continental Congress met and made on last attempt for peace. They hoped the British would change their laws.
- We shall send a petition for our rights to the king!
- Since it did not work, a committee was selected to create a statement about the colonists ideas of independence. The final document was called the Declaration of independence
- Its was officially signed on July 4 1776. It had 3 parts: A preamble, An outline and list of grievances/complantes.
- THE COLONIES WERE FREE!

- THE KING DID NOT RESPOND.
- Did you hear the rumour going around? They say we are getting taxed
- We must tax the clonies. It shall help us recover from the war. We are in debt, it's a good way to raise money.
- BY who???
- We will tax them on sugar for their tea! Legal documents like stamps and on special items like paint and glass
- Back in Colonial America a town meeting was held to discuss the unfairness of these taxes

- Meanwhile in England...
- The colonists were very angry. They thought they were unfair.
- These taxes are unfair!
- King George was so furious he passed more laws that affected the colonists.
- They were passed without our consent!
- Intorable Acts:No town meetings without approval from Parliament.Closed Boston HarborAllowed a colonist's trial to be moved to another colony, or to England.
- We shall boycott these taxes. Its the only way!
- Quartering acts: forced people to quarter British soldiers and feed them.
- MY ORDERS WILL NOT BE IGNORED. WE MUST GET OUT OF DEBT!
