- Person versus nature
- The bear had been their undoing, though at that time they had all laughed.
- Person versus self
- "when I first saw you "-they were eating and somehow he needed to let him know- "I ...thought..." but she was ashamed to finish the sentence.
- Self versus society
- "If I'm to recommend you to the concord corporation, you need to look decent, they like to hire a good class of girls here."
- This scene was when the bear intruded into the cabin. I know that this is person versus nature because the bear is nature and Lyddie is the person. Lyddie was fighting the bar to not hurt her family.
- When Lyddie found Ezekial in her cabin, she thought about turning him in, but after getting to know Ezekial a little, she feels ashamed that she even thought about turning him in. I know this because Lyddie is struggling to decide between herself.
- Lyddie is at the boarding house, and Ms. Bellow tells Lyddie that in order to be in the mill, they look at the visual, not the skill. I know this because, in the book, society has discrimination against poorer girls. For example Lyddie.
