- As a detective, I work till the late afternoon and the time was coming close to 4:00 so I decided to drive home. I was dreading the conversation I was going to have with my pregnant wife Mary. As soon as I opened the front door, Mary walked over and greeted me happily.
- FALLING ACTION
- She made me a drink and offered to make me supper, I denied, telling her to sit down. I was dreading this moment, but I knew that it was the right thing to do, so I told her that I had put a lot of thought into it and there wasn’t any reason to fuss since it wouldn’t do well for my job.
- RESOLUTION
- I briefly told her about the issue watching as the horror and shock on her face grew. I explained that I would give her money and see that she was looked after, I knew it was a bad time to be telling her but, there wasn’t any other way.
- After I finished, Mary obviously startled by the bad news, quietly said that she was going to make supper, I didn’t stop her this time, instead, I went over to the window, opened the curtains, and peered outside. I heard Mary walking out of the cellar, and I told her sternly without meeting her gaze that there wasn’t any need for her to make me supper since I was about to go out.
- Unexpectedly, I felt a sharp pain like a steel club had hit me on the head, it felt like my brain had exploded and I crashed on to the floor. The last thing I saw was Mary full of shock holding a big frozen lamb leg.
