- Fine, I challenge you to stay sober throughout the whole party.
- Okay Mr. Confident,
- I accept the challenge be ready to go in my car tomorrow evening. And remember no cheating. You can't call a taxi.
- I will definitely stay sober. Get in trouble with the law, I could never.
- He definitely won't stay sober. I wish I could call a taxi, but that would be cheating. Plus i don't think i have the money for that right now.
- 7. Michael doesn't think that John will last throughout the party without at least a shot of alcohol. So, he challenges him to stay sober, hoping that they can go to a party on a budget without doing anything illegal. But John mentions that the catch is that Michael can't call a taxi.
- Hey Michael, wake up, wake up. We have to get ready for the party.
- Huh? I'm up, i'm up. Give me two minutes.
- 8. While trying to fall asleep, John tries to convince himself that he won't get drunk or break the law even though he's already broken the law once last year for drunk driving without causing serious harm.
- Hey, get in my car when your done. It's already 9:10pm
- What, already? Let me just change my shirt, then we can go.
- 9. Michael really wants to book a taxi for him and John to get home after the party. But it's cheating and he has been off work for a few months because of a back injury from taking drunk John to a car after a party a few months ago. Therefore, he doesn't want to use any money on things he thinks are unnecessary.Wilfull Blindness: (recklessness) one closes their mind to the possible consequences.
- Can you tell Carla we'll be there in ten? Also remind me not to come back this way.
- Sure. For sure, it's so slow and we'll probably be tired.
- 10. John wakes up Michael because they are always late to parties and he's excited to talk to some of his old high school friends that he hasn't linked with in a while.
- 11. John continues to stay confident that he can make it back home sober, so he tells Michael to get in HIS car so that they can go to the party. Plus, they are already running a few minutes late.
- 12. John drives and he and Michael are on their way to Carla's birthday party. There is a construction zone on the way to her house so John keeps in mind not to come back this way after the party.
