Alison and the miller where rwo different people. the carpenter was old and hairy but alison was beautiful and fair. everyone was in love with alison. therefore the carpenter never ler her go out by herself- and he only trusted Nicholas.
There's going to be a flood. quick we need to prepare.
Nicholas was educated and religious, so the carpenter had no suspicion about what he and Alison did when he wasnt looking. they would steal a kiss whilist doing laudry or when they were in the larder.

one day, nicholas locked himself inside of his room for a night and when he finally came out, he said that there was going to be a big flood. so he told the carpenter to prepare for everyone.
while the carpenter was sleeping in the barrel. alison and nicholas were alone, togehter in alisons room. while they were together, absalon had come to the window and wanted to give alison a kiss. but found out nicholas was in there and left with rage.
again, absalon came, but this time with a red hot poker. hecalled for alison and again nicholas came- this tie his rear was sticking out of the window. the creams was heard all about the village. the carpenter (thinking the flood had come) yelled out screaming that the end of the world was here- but everyone theought he was crazy. meanwhile a tricle of smoke left nicholas's trousers.
