- Hi! My name is Adam. I'm a nitrogen atom. I go through the nitrogen cycle! Come with me and i'll show you what it's all about!
- First we start in the atmosphere. Our goal right now is to get fixed by lightning or bacteria. Some of my lucky friends got stuck by lightning and got fixed!
- Yea!
- Woo-hoo!
- Now, I just turned into a just turned into Nitrogen gas, or N2! I can now go into a plant as food, or I can continue through the cycle. I plan to continue the cycle, but only time will tell.
- Yes! I continued through the cycle! I just went through ammonification. A bacteria turned me into ammonium ions, or NH4. On to the next step!
- Now I'm in the process of Nitrification. This is a 2-step process. First a bacteria turns me into a nitrite ions, or NO2, which I am now. Then I turn into nitrate ions, or NO3, Which I'm about to be. Lets go to the last step!
- Now I'm in a process called denitrification. In this process, I get turned back into Nitrogen gas, or at least an atom of it. I'm already floating up! Weeeeee!
