- It was the middle of the night. Emily was fast asleep in her bed, unaware that something was going to happen that night that would change her life.
- Zzzzzzzzz....
- Suddenly, she heard a 'drip, drip, drip'. What was it? Then, as she peered over the edge of the bed, she saw a dark puddle spreading on the floor.
- MUM! WHERE ARE YOU? MY BEDROOM'S LEAKING!
- Suddenly, her mum burst in, shouting, "We need to evacuate!" Thinking quickly, Emily grabbed her doll, and stuffed her clothes into her mum's bag.
- Bring everything you can, we need to evacuate!
- They opened the second window and shouted for help. Finally, a little boat bobbed up and they scrambled in. They were leaving their home and going to the village hall, where others had also gone.
- Where can we go?
- So far, everyone has been taken to the village hall, you'll go there too.
- The village hall was full of people who had been evacuated from houses, just like Emily. There were firemen and firewomen, and a policewoman.
- VILLAGE HALL NEWS:
- There's a spare chair over there.
- OK, thank you.
- When the floods had died down, they went back to their house, but everything was different. Emily's room was ruined, and was all damp and smelly. Many people lost their homes, this is how serious floods can be.
